2020 Bracket Challenge: Round 4

true blue 9

As the World Am Bracket Challenge closes out Round 3 and moves into the “Elite Eight” Round 4, we were treated with some fantastic matchups across the board.

Round Three Thrillers

Just like we expected after seeing the slate of head to heads, one of the closest matchups was Myrtle Beach National King’s North taking on Pawleys Plantation. Arnold Palmer versus Jack Nicklaus. The King versus The Golden Bear. Just like the storied battles on the links between the two legendary course designers, these courses went down to the last hole on the back nine. The marsh views of the Nicklaus designed Pawleys Plantation came out on top in the end, edging the famous King’s North course in a close one.

The “Sweet Sixteen” saw quite the matchup between Blackmoor Golf Club and Carolina National. Blackmoor’s friendly and fun layout is a great contrast to the difficult test at Carolina National. Providing two unique rounds of golf paired with great course conditions, these two courses were guaranteed a photo finish. In the end, the Fred Couples designed Carolina National squeezed the tightest margin of victory yet in the Bracket Challenge, winning by only a handful of votes.

Round Four Featured Matchup

Looking ahead to the next round, we certainly will be treated to some heavyweight matchups on every corner of the bracket. The “Elite Eight” of the World Am Bracket Challenge is set for some fireworks.

One of the head to heads in Round 4 will come from the battle of two titanic Myrtle Beach golf courses: Grande Dunes Resort Course vs. TPC Myrtle Beach.

Some might say this is a Championship game all on its own, with two vaunted facilities decorated with awards and accolades from every corner of the golfing world. Their prime conditions and championship layouts are put on display regularly, as both facilities have hosted prestigious events in recent years.

Accolades are aplenty for TPC Myrtle Beach, as the facility has hosted the World Am Championship Round in previous years, as well as annually playing host to the world-class event, the Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship.

Grande Dunes Resort certainly is no slouch in this category either, having hosted the PGA Professional National Championship as well as other high-profile events. The Resort Course utilizes beautiful scenery along the Intracoastal Waterway, and one of the longest championship layouts in the area, to leave their guests feeling fulfilled. You will always be thrilled to make a tee time at one of these two courses, and this matchup in our bracket is sure to be just as exciting!

Another premier matchup in Round 4 comes straight from Pawleys Island, SC as two of the South Ends most beautiful tracks go head to head. The “Elite Eight” of our World Am Bracket Challenge is truly elite with Pawleys Plantation Golf & Country Club taking on True Blue Golf Club. These two courses regularly sit at the top of every Myrtle Beach golfer’s must play list, so seeing these two still fighting for the top spot is no surprise.

The Mike Stranz designed True Blue Golf Club offers its guests with a true one-of-a-kind experience, pairing massive and forgiving fairways with some of the most technical green complexes you will encounter.

Pawleys Plantation brings forth easily one of the most challenging rounds of golf in the area, but pairs this with gorgeous breathtaking views of the low country South Carolina marshlands to ease the mind. We aren’t sure who wins this matchup of South End powerhouses, but we are sure it will be close.
