2023 World Am Preview: The 40th Anniversary Edition, By the Numbers

We’re down to the final hours before thousands of players from throughout the United States and around the globe descend once more upon “The Golf Capital of the World” to experience the largest, most fun and most valuable golf tournament on the planet!

The 40th Annual PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com World Amateur Handicap Championship kicks off this weekend with player registration at each of the Grand Strand’s PGA TOUR Superstore locations in Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach. What can participants expect this year? Let’s break it down by the numbers:

  • 3,268 players are registered this year, competing in 12 divisions and 64 competitive flights.
  • 2,954 men and 314 women are 2023 World Am participants.
  • 50 golf courses will be played throughout the week.
  • 32 courses will be in use each day of the tournament.
  • All 50 states are represented this year, along with 17 foreign countries including Canada (33 players), Portugal (32), Brazil (12), Bermuda (9) and Costa Rica (9).
  • 5 players in this year’s field have played all 40 years.
  • 53 exhibitors will be on display throughout World Am Week for the “World’s Largest 19th Hole” including featured exhibitors Fairway Leathers, Lag Shot, Makefield Putters, OnCore Golf, Spectrum Golf, Tin Cup and PGA TOUR Superstore.
  • The top 5 states represented in this year’s field include Florida (396 players), South Carolina (375), North Carolina (356), Texas (269), and Virginia (163).
  • 20 local restaurant vendors will be offering culinary delights at this year’s 19th Hole including Angelo’s Steak & Pasta, Dagwood’s Deli and Big Mike’s Soul Food.
  • 262 bottles of Ketel One Vodka are among the volume of spirits expected to be consumed next week at the 19th Hole.
  • The average tournament index is 11.8.
  • 16 is the age of the youngest player in this year’s field, with our eldest teeing off at 90 years old.
