By the Numbers Preview

As participants arrive and prepare for Monday’s first round of Myrtle Beach World Amateur competition, the final player count for the 2019 edition of “The Largest & Most Fun Golf Tournament on the Planet” stands at 3,215 golfers. A glimpse inside the numbers reveals some intriguing facts about this year’s event.

49 – With one exception (Alaska), every state in the nation is represented in the 2019 player field. South Carolina (312), Florida (307), North Carolina (285), Texas (258) and Georgia (217) lead the way in terms of total participants, followed by sizable contingents from Virginia (180), Pennsylvania (154), New York (118), New Jersey (114) and Ohio (109).

20 – The number of countries outside of the United States taking part in this year’s World Am, led by Canada with 51 entries. The United Kingdom (13) is one of five countries with 10 or more golfers, but cannot quite claim the No. 2 spot of international representation: that honor this year goes to Portugal, with an impressive 31 participants. Germany (11) and Bermuda (10) round out the top five, followed by a wide-ranging international delegation that includes Italy, Australia, Brazil, Panama, South Africa, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Mexico, India, Netherlands Antilles, Sweden, Belarus, Guatemala, Japan and United Arab Emirates.

500,000 – The approximate number of miles the World Am’s 161 international participants will have traveled from their home destinations to Myrtle Beach to compete in this year’s event.

59 – The number of golf courses up and down the Grand Strand where the 2019 World Am will be contested – ranging from Lockwood Folly Country Club in Southeastern North Carolina to Pawleys Plantation along the Grand Strand’s south end in Pawleys Island, S.C., and with 57 award-winning designs in between spanning an 80-mile stretch of golfing paradise.

67 – The total number of flights being contested this year, spanning wide array of ages and handicap ranges in both men’s and women’s classifications. Flight winners advance to Friday’s championship round at The Dye Course at Barefoot Resort.
