Thistle to Make Debut as World Am Playoff Host in 2025

The Play Golf Myrtle Beach World Amateur Championship (World Am) today announced its choice for hosting its 2025 Flight Winners Playoff: Thistle Golf Club, the critically acclaimed North Strand venue which welcomes the World Am’s final day of play for the first time.

After recently earning top-five national honors from GolfPass in its Golfers’ Choice 2025 rankings of the “Top 25 Public Courses in the U.S.,” Thistle now joins an award-winning stable of World Am championship round hosts that has included The Dye Course at Barefoot Resort, TPC Myrtle Beach and Grande Dunes Resort Course in recent years.

Thistle also comes in at No. 9 in Golfweek’s most recent “Best You Can Play in North Carolina” rankings.

“We are thrilled to have Thistle serve as our Flight Winners Playoff host course in 2025,” said Tournament Director Ryan Hart. “As Thistle has faithfully hosted multiple Golf Tourism Solutions events over the years, their team has always provided an exceptional, top-shelf experience for all its visiting golfers. Recent enhancements to the property have only added to a one-of-a-kind environment, and we can’t wait to bring the World Am’s Flight Winners Playoff there in August!”

Thistle welcomes its guests with a stylish, Scottish-themed clubhouse boasting an interior with antiquities salvaged from Old World European buildings, and classically paired with the best in modern conveniences. Thistle’s on-course experience is highlighted by a recently installed PermaEdge stacked sod bunkering system, bringing both unique challenge and aesthetic flair that have drawn raves from visiting golfers.

The 2025 World Am Flight Winners Playoff comes to Thistle on Friday, August 29, capping a weeklong tournament golf experience for 3,000 amateur golfers descending upon “The Golf Capital of the World” from across the globe. And with just over 500 spots left and only two more days to take advantage of $50 price savings on your World Am registration, the time for you to secure your place in this year’s World Am is now!
