So you’re already registered for the World Am — congrats, you’re officially one of the 3,000+ playing golf’s biggest amateur event in the Golf Capital of the World®! But here’s a fun little side quest you might not know about: while you’re here, you can also throw your hat in the ring for the Pairs Competition, and honestly, it might be the best $50 you spend all week.
How it works: Grab a partner — any other World Am participant — for $50 per player ($100 per team). You’re not locked into one duo, either. You can play on up to three teams total, mixing and matching partners, as long as each pairing pays its own $100. The only rule: no solo entries. This is a “buddy system” deal all the way.
The stakes: You and your partner combine your net scores across all 72 holes of the World Am, playing against par. Since scoring is based on course difficulty and your tournament handicap, there’s just one flight — everyone’s competing on a level playing field no matter which division you’re actually playing in during the main event. Top 5 teams (and ties) punch their ticket to Friday’s Flight Winners Playoff, where scores reset and it’s winner-take-all for the top five.
The prize that makes it worth it: First place walks away with a golf trip back to Myrtle Beach — 4 nights lodging and 4 rounds of golf for two people, valued up to $1,000 per person, with your choice of Play Golf Myrtle Beach lodging and course partners. Not winning it all? There’s still real money on the table — 2nd through 10th place all score discounts ranging from $250 down to $50 off next year’s World Am entry fee.
How to sign up: It all happens right in your player profile — just list your partner’s name, and they’ll need to confirm the pairing on their end too. Easy in, easy out.
Bottom line: you’re already making the trip and already playing the golf. For fifty bucks, why not give yourself a shot at a free return trip?
