Big Break Myrtle Beach Debuts This October

big break myrtle beach - Season # 22Golf Channel has selected Myrtle Beach as the next host of its most popular series – Big Break.

The 12-episode series will begin airing weekly on Tuesday, October 7 at 9 p.m. The upcoming season’s cast will include six men and six women, all aspiring professional golfers hoping the show will provide a life-changing opportunity.

The event winner will receive an exemption into a PGA or LPGA event and cash and prizes.

Four area golf courses will host the event and players in this year’s World Am will get an early look at the designs that will challenge contestants on Big Break Myrtle Beach. All four host layouts – the Dye, Fazio and Love courses at Barefoot and Pawleys Plantation – will be hosting the World Am this year as well.

The show’s cast is expected to be unveiled in August (hmmm … just thinking about the possibilities at the World Largest 19th Hole!).

Among the prior Big Break participants who have graduated to the game’s major tours are PGA Tour winners Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainey and Matt Every and Solheim Cuppers Kristy McPherson, a Conway native, Ryann O’Toole and Gerina Piller.

The hosts of Big Break Myrtle Beach will be Tom Abbott, a mainstay on the show, and LPGA Tour pro Paige Mackenzie, who is also a co-host on Golf Channel’s Morning Drive.

Golf Channel’s Big Break show concept pits highly skilled golfers against each other in a variety of challenges that test their physical skills and mental toughness.  During Big Break Myrtle Beach, the competitors – who will be announced in August – will be subject to skills challenges from tee-to-green, including the popular “Glass Break” and “Flop Wall.”  One contestant will be eliminated each week, with the last player standing awarded his or her Big Break, an opportunity to compete on the PGA TOUR or LPGA Tour in 2015.
