Beautiful Weather Greets Golfers; 19th Hole Beckons!

Sunny skies and, dare I say it, cool temperatures, greeted more than, 3,400 golfers on opening day of the 31st annual Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Championship.

The high is forecast to be 85 degrees but temperatures throughout the Grand Strand were in the mid-60s early this morning. It made for a beautiful start as golfers began their quest to qualify for Friday’s World Championship playoff.

The World’s Largest 19th Hole, held at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, opens from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. tonight.

Katrek and Maginnes On Tap, a nationally broadcast radio show on Sirius/XM, will be originating live from the 19th Hole, and the par 3 and long putt contests, where contestants will have the opportunity to win $25,000, will begin as well.

The Swingin’ Medallions, a 51-year-old Southern tradition, will provide live music in the ballroom. The band was made famous by its 1.5 million selling hit album “Double Shot of My Baby’s Love.” Fred Pugh, one of 10 participants who have played in every World Am, was one of the band’s original members and will join them on-stage.

Enjoy a great opening day at the World Am!
